The Corporate Emissions Reduction Transparency (CERT) report 2023 highlights the participating companies data and information for either the 2021-22 financial year or the 2022 calendar year.

At a glance

Twenty-five companies participated in the CERT report 2023, presenting a total of 69 commitments.

  • The participating companies represent:
    • a broad cross-section of Australia’s economy, including the energy, manufacturing, mining, retail, financial, transport, construction, and research sectors
    • 21% of scope 1 emissions and 8% of scope 2 emissions, as reported to the Clean Energy Regulator (CER), for the 2021-22 financial year.
  • Of the 25 participating companies:
    • 20 have commitments to reach net zero emissions by 2050, 6 of these companies are already carbon neutral
    • 11 have emissions reduction or emissions intensity reduction commitments that include scope 3 emissions
    • 13 have commitments to reach 100% renewable electricity use by 2030.
  • Nineteen of the participating companies also participated in the CERT report 2022.
  • Compared to the CERT report 2022, participating companies surrendered or cancelled:
    • over 980,000 international carbon units, up 65%
    • over 160,000 Australian carbon credit units (ACCUs), with over half of these surrendered by Safeguard entities, down 10%
    • over 1.3 million large-scale generation certificates (LGCs) to prove claims of renewable electricity use, up 274%.

Commitment ambition

Participating companies reported 24 net zero commitments, with 13 net zero commitments by 2030.

Sixteen renewable electricity consumption commitments were reported in the CERT report 2023, of which:

  • 15 companies included a goal of 100% renewable electricity use
  • 13 companies are aiming to achieve 100% renewable electricity use by 2030.
