The permanent shutdown of 3G mobile phone networks around Australia began in December 2023 with further shutdowns scheduled in 2024. We are preparing for the impact this will have for many power stations and their remote access of data through on-site modems.
We recommend you investigate the impact of the 3G network shutdown if you have an internet-enabled meter.
Participants can use the 3G meter replacement notification form to inform the CER of any replacements. We have created this form to assist the transition for power stations, particularly participants with multiple meters impacted.
Replacing a meter is also a good opportunity to look into the power station’s eligibility for the Solar Irradiance methodology. This methodology benefits power stations by reducing manual data entry for LGC claims, which results in faster processing times.
