Once large-scale generation certificates (LGCs) have been successfully created and registered through the REC Registry, they may be bought and sold by traders and businesses through the open LGC market.
While most large-scale generation certificates are purchased by Renewable Energy Target liable entities to fulfil their surrender obligations under the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Act 2000, anyone with an appropriate REC Registry account may trade in LGCs.
Important information before you start
Before buying and selling large-scale generation certificates please note:
- there is no set price for large-scale generation certificates, though the going market price will vary depending on supply and demand
- payment for large-scale generation certificates is also negotiated outside of the REC Registry, and
- once payment has been received, certificate ownership of must be transferred in the REC Registry.
