With the commencement of the Carbon Farming Initiative in December 2011, the Australian national registry of emissions units (ANREU) was enhanced to issue and manage
Australian carbon credit units (ACCUs) created through approved projects.
The ANREU continues to issue and manage ACCUs under the Emissions Reduction Fund, introduced in December 2014. The ANREU will also be used by sellers with a
carbon abatement contract to deliver units.
