To assist responsible emitters in preparing for the first compliance period under the safeguard mechanism, the Clean Energy Regulator held workshops in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth in August 2017.
These sessions focused on compliance options to meet obligations under the safeguard mechanism, including applying for a calculated baseline, a multi-year monitoring period, or an emissions intensity variation. The sessions also provided an overview of how the Clean Energy Regulator will use National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting reports to determine who is covered by the safeguard mechanism in 2016–17, and calculate each responsible emitter's net emissions number.
A demonstration also showed how the
Client Portal can be used to access information about which facilities are covered by the safeguard mechanism, and what their baselines and net emissions numbers are.
Who attended?
The safeguard workshops were open to representatives of responsible emitters, their advisors, consultants, auditors and law firms.
