Goulburn Bioenergy project
Quantum Power Limited is focussed on creating a better environment with its
bioenergy project that was contracted at the second auction. Located in Goulburn, New South Wales this project will install anaerobic digesters to convert organic materials in waste processing at Southern Meats to biogas. The biogas is then refined and used as a fuel for a renewable power station, generating up to 1 megawatt of renewable energy.
Whilst biogas is currently used at a number of Australian meat processing facilities as a fuel for boilers, this is the first project where the biogas will be used to generate electricity that offsets grid supplied electricity.
Quantum Power Business Development Manager, Kunal Kumar, said "the biogas project will deliver environmental benefits and energy savings to Southern Meats by offsetting 40 per cent of grid-supplied electricity for the abattoir."
Mr Kumar confirmed that the Emissions Reduction Fund was major catalysts for the decision to proceed with the project.
