Renewable Electricity Guarantee of Origin (REGO)

04 December 2023

The Guarantee of Origin (GO) scheme is being designed to track and verify emissions associated with hydrogen and a range of low emissions products made in Australia. It will also provide an enduring mechanism, called the Renewable Guarantee of Origin (REGO), to certify renewable electricity.

The proposed REGO certificate mechanism would build on the effective and highly regarded large-scale generation certificate (LGC) framework which ends in 2030.

It is proposed that REGOs would be able to be created for all renewable generation, including electricity exported overseas, electricity generated by small-scale solar PV and renewable electricity dispatched from storage facilities.

The REGO will provide certainty to underpin investment in renewables in Australia.

Policy development of this scheme is being led by the Department of Climate Change, Energy the Environment and Water. To find out more, please visit the Guarantee of Origin page.
