The use of existing vegetation maps and maps covering areas beyond project areas in savanna fire management projects

24 December 2021

The Clean Energy Regulator advises that there is no restriction on the use of existing vegetation maps for savanna fire management projects provided that the maps used meet the requirements of Division 3.2 of the methodology determination for Early Dry Season Savanna Burning 1.1.

Where a project proponent wishes to use existing vegetation maps, including maps that cover areas beyond the identified project area, they must ensure:

  • the clipped section of a single vegetation map must cover the entire project area;
  • the clipped section of vegetation map used for the project must satisfy the requirements of subsection 3.4 of the determination; including
    1. the validation of the clipped section of map for the project must satisfy subsection 3.4(3) with regard to sampling all vegetation classes over the project area. For example, if the project area contains all 4 eligible vegetation classes, the clipped section of map must have at least 4 waypoints.
