Last year we launched the Solar Panel Validation (SPV) Initiative in partnership with industry. Now, more than half the solar PV panels associated with small-scale technology certificate (STC) claims can be validated using SPV. With the success of SPV we are strongly encouraging remaining solar industry businesses to get involved.
What’s happening in 2019
Small-scale technology certificate applications
Currently, applications to create STCs submitted with validated solar panels are likely to be processed more quickly – typically within 48 hours, subject to the application successfully meeting all eligibility requirements under the scheme. From March 2019, STC processing times are planned to reduce even further to as fast as 24 hours.
Apps and validation services
This year, the solar industry can continue to use existing SPV apps and validation services or now bring their own. If you are a retailer, installer or registered agent, start using an app to validate panels, or if you are a manufacturer, provide your serial number data through a validation service.

We are currently developing a logo to support the positive reputation of SPV, to drive industry participation and increase consumer awareness of SPV. More information will be available soon.
Customer record
A new customer record is available through the apps to easily provide consumers with evidence that their solar panels have been validated as genuine. The record includes information such as the make and model of the solar panels, their serial numbers, the time and date of validation and the installation location.
