A new plantation forestry method has now been made under the Emissions Reduction Fund.
The 2022 plantation forestry method builds on the existing Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative—Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2017. The new method aims to provide more opportunities for the plantation forestry industry to participate in the ERF.
The 2022 plantation forestry carbon method will come into effect on 31 January 2022.
The method removes barriers to participation in the existing project activities:
There is a growing trend of Australia’s plantation estate converting to non-forested land. The method also introduces two new activities to retain land under forest in circumstances where it would have otherwise been converted to non-forested land:
