30 November 2016
RET

The renewable power percentage is published each year to set the rate of liability for Renewable Energy Target liable entities under the Large-scale Renewable Energy Target.

The renewable power percentage is a predetermined annual target set to achieve the Large-scale Renewable Energy Target of 33,000 gigawatt hours by 2020.

All legislated Large-scale Renewable Energy Targets from 2001 to 2030 are shown in the table below.

Footnotes

1. The legislation first commenced with a renewable energy target from 2001 to 2020. Section 40 of the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Act 2000 No. 174 2000 - C2004A00767 has since been amended.

2. The legislation was amended to increase the renewable energy target and extend the life of the scheme to 2030. Section 40 of the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Act 2000 No. 78 2009 - C2009C00435 has since been amended.

3. The legislation was amended to represent two targets the Large-scale Renewable Energy Target and the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme. Section 40 of the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Act 2000 number 69 2010 - C2010C00469.

4. The adjusted target accounts for the number of valid certificates that exceeded 34,500,000 MWh at the end of 2010 (paragraphs 40(1A)(a) and (b) of the Act).

5. The adjusted target accounts for the commencement of waste coal mine gas as an eligible renewable energy source (subsections 40(2) – (5) of the Act).

6. The legislation was amended during 2015 when 100 per cent exemption was provided to companies conducting emission intensive trade exposed activities and eligibility from wood waste was reintroduced. Section 40 of the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Act 2000 number 90 2015 - C2015C00313
