Safeguard facility reported emissions for 2017–18 now available

14 March 2019

The Clean Energy Regulator has today released the 2017–18 safeguard facility reported emissions data.

In 2017–18, 211 safeguard facilities reported a total of 138.4 million tonnes CO2-e covered emissions.

Responsible emitters used a range of options to meet their obligations, including applying for a calculated baseline, baseline variation (for improved emissions intensity), multi-year monitoring period, and surrendering Australian carbon credit units (ACCUs) to offset their emissions.

In addition to having a reported or calculated baseline in force:

  • two facilities had their baseline temporarily varied due to improved emissions intensity
  • 11 facilities entered a multi-year monitoring period to average emissions below their baseline, and
  • 13 facilities surrendered a combined total of 259,528 ACCUs.

Prior to the compliance deadline of 1 March 2019, 100 per cent of all safeguard entities met their safeguard obligations.
