Unlike the corporate emissions and energy data set, which is published at a controlling corporation level, the electricity sector emissions and production data set is published at a designated generation facility level.
A designated generation facility is defined as a facility where the principle activity is electricity production. Facilities that generate electricity for their own use or as a secondary activity are not included in this dataset.
From 2014–15, the Clean Energy Regulator also published total sectoral emissions and production data—providing greater transparency in terms of how the sector is tracking in relation to the
sectoral baseline set under
the safeguard mechanism.
When comparing total emissions between reporting years, it is important to note that each year there may be minor changes to the
National Greenhouse and Energy (Measurement) Determination 2008, and in the number of reporters and facilities that meet the
publication threshold and
reporting threshold. The Clean Energy Regulator takes all reasonable efforts to ensure the information published on its website is accurate at the time of publication.
