By 31 October each year, Australian corporations that
meet certain thresholds must report their emissions and energy information under the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) scheme.
We are required under the
National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007 (NGER Act) to publish the following information by 28 February each year:
-
Registered corporations: reported greenhouse gas emissions and net energy consumption for all registered corporations.
-
Reporting transfer certificate holders: reported greenhouse gas emissions and net energy consumption for reporting transfer certificate holders.
-
Designated generation facilities: greenhouse gas emissions, energy production, primary fuel source, emissions intensity and grid connection information for facilities where the principal activity is electricity generation.
-
National Greenhouse and Energy Register by year: corporations registered under the NGER Act.
We also publish voluntarily provided information about
GreenPower and renewable energy certificates: GreenPower purchases, renewable energy certificates and scope 2 offset data.
How National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting data is used
NGER data provides vital information about greenhouse gas emissions, energy production and energy consumption across important sectors of the economy. The data we collect is used to:
- inform Australian Government policy and the public
- meet Australia’s international reporting obligations and measure progress against Australia’s international climate change commitments
- assist Australian Government, state and territory government programs and activities
- avoid duplication of similar reporting requirements in the states and territories.
