Sm​all-scale systems installed across Australia

This map shows the total number of small-scale renewable energy systems installed under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme in each state and territory, the total kilowatt rated output for November 2015, and the national cumulative totals since 2001.

The data which informs this month’s update is accurate as at 1 December 2015. For up to date figures, please refer to the postcode data for small-scale installationsCapacity figures do not include rated output for solar water heaters.​

National trends and analysis

  • 5583 small-scale systems were installed nationally in November, with a total capacity of 23 264kW.
  • Installation rates for November are currently tracking lower than October, with 5583 installed compared to 6209 last month. 
  • Queensland continues to have the highest level of small-scale installations across Australia with 1755 systems installed in November.
  • New South Wales had the highest number of commercial sized systems installed in November, with 61 (10-100kW) solar photovoltaic (PV) installations this month.
  • New South Wales also had the largest small-scale system installed in November at 99.84kW.

Each table below shows the breakdown of system types installed in each state and territory for November 2015, their running total since the scheme commenced in 2001, and the installed capacity for the current month.

  • The Australian Capital Territory installed 20 small-scale systems in November, which is a decrease from October and September installation figures.
  • Campbell (postcode area 2612), Coombs (postcode area 2611) and Hackett (postcode area 2602) were the top suburb postcodes in the Australian Capital Territory in November with two new installations respectively.
  • Mawson (postcode area 2607) and Wright (postcode area 2611) had the largest small-scale solar PV systems installed at 5.67kW each.
  • Solar water heaters represent 45 per cent of the small-scale systems installed in the Australian Capital Territory for the month of November.

 
  • New South Wales had the third highest level of small-scale installations across Australia in November, representing 21 per cent of the total installed capacity Australia-wide this month.
  • Coffs Harbour (postcode area 2450) was the top performing suburb in New South Wales in November with ​​11 new installations.
  • Armidale (postcode area 2350) had the largest small-scale solar PV system installed in New South Wales in November at 99.84kW followed closely by Forbes (postcode area 2871) with a 99.64kW system.


  • The Northern Territory installed 68 small-scale systems in November compared to 47 installations in October. November installations represent 1 per cent of the total installed capacity Australia-wide.
  • Gillen (postcode area 0870) and Tennant Creek (postcode area 0860) were the top performing postcod​es in the Northern Territory in November with 8 new installations respectively.
  • Alice Springs (postcode area 0870) had the largest small-scale solar PV system installed in the Northern Territory in November at 30kW.

  • Queensland continues to have the highest overall level of small-scale installations in Australia, with 1488 small-scale systems installed in November.  
  • Queensland’s installations represent 31 per cent of the total installed capacity Australia-wide during November.
  • Morayfield (postcode area 4506) and Buderim (postcode area 4556) were the top performing suburbs in Qu​eensland in November with 15 new installations respectively.
  • Eagle Farm (postcode area 4009) had the largest small-scale solar PV system installed in Queensland in November at 49.92kW.




 

  • South Australia installed 526 small-scale systems in November, representing 9 per cent of the total installed capacity Australia-wide this month.
  • Morphett Vale (postcode area 5162) was the top performing suburb in South Australia in November with 8 new installations.
  • Marion (postcode area 5043) and Lonsdale (postcode area 5160) had the largest small-scale solar PV systems installed in South Australia in November at 30kW.

  • Tasmania installed 95 small-scale systems in November, representing 2 per cent of the total installed capacity across Australia. This is a slight increase from the 93 installations in October.
  • Newnham (postcode area 7248) was the top performing suburb in Tasmania in November with 5 new installations.
  • Campbell Town (postcode area 7210) had the largest small-scale solar PV system installed in Tasmania in November at 32.76kW.

 
  • Victoria installed 774 small-scale systems in November, compared with 972 small-scale systems installed in October. November installations represent 14 per cent of the total installed capacity Australia-wide this month.  
  • Point Cook (postcode area 3030) was the top performing suburb in Victoria in November with 18 new installations.
  • North Geelong (postcode area 3215) had the largest small-scale solar PV system installed in Victoria in November at 80kW.
  • Solar water heaters represent 25 per cent of Victoria’s small-scale installations in November.

  • Western Australia installed 1192 small-scale systems in November, compared with 1280 installations in October.
  • Postcode area 6112 (covering eight Western Australian suburbs) was the top performing postcode area across Australia in November with 44 new small-scale installations.
  • Baldivis (postcode area 6171) and Ellenbrook (postcode area 6069) were the top performing suburbs in Western Australia in November with 26 new installations respectively.
  • Maddington (postcode area 6109) had the largest small-scale solar PV system installed Western Australia in November at 40kW.
