S​mall-scale systems installed across Australia

This map shows the total number of small-scale renewable energy systems installed under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme in each state and territory, the total kilowatt rated output for December 2015, and the national cumulative totals since 2001.

*Given the 12-month period for creating small-scale technology certificates, the number of certificates for monthly installations will continue to rise. The data which informs this month’s update is accurate as at 1 January 2016​. For up to date figures, please refer to the postcode data for small-scale installationsCapacity figures do not include rated output for solar water heaters.​

National trends and analysis

  • 5676 small-scale systems were installed nationally in December, with a total generation capacity of 24 248kW.
  • Installation rates for December are currently tracking higher than November with 5676 installed compared to 5583 last month. 
  • Queensland continued to have the highest level of small-scale installations across Australia with 1645 systems installed in December.
  • 256 commercial sized systems (10 – 100kW) were installed Australia-wide in December. 
  • New South Wales had the highest number of commercial sized system installations, with 88 (10-100kW) solar photovoltaic (PV) installed this month.
  • Western Australia had the largest PV system installed in December at 99.84kW.
  • South Australia had one small-scale wind system installed in December, bringing the national total to 402 wind system installations.

Each table below shows the breakdown of system types installed in each state and territory for December 2015, their running total since the scheme commenced in 2001, and the installed capacity for the current month.

  • The Australian Capital Territory installed 33 small-scale systems in December, which is an increase from November installation figures.
  • Turner (postcode area 2612) was the top performing suburb in the Australian Capital Territory in December with 3 new installations. 
  • Nicholls (postcode area 2913) had the largest small-scale PV system installed at 10.6kW.
  • Solar water heaters represent 30 per cent of the small-scale installations in the Australian Capital Territory in December.

  • New South Wales had the second highest level of small-scale installations across Australia in December, representing 23 per cent of the total installed capacity Australia-wide this month.
  • Installations in New South Wales in December represent a 12 per cent increase on November installation levels.
  • Laurieton (postcode area 2443) was the top performing suburb in New South Wales in December with 24 new installations.
  • Minto (postcode area 2566) had the largest PV system installed in New South Wales in December at 88.24kW.



  • The Northern Territory installed 40 small-scale systems in December which represents 1 per cent of the total installed capacity Australia-wide this month.
  • Alice Springs (postcode area 0870) was the top performing postcode in the Northern Territory in December with 5 new installations. 
  • Alice Springs (postcode area 0870) and Winnellie (postcode area 0820) had the largest PV systems installed in the Northern Territory in December at 30kW each.

  • Queensland installed 1 645 small-scale systems in December, continuing to have the highest overall level of small-scale installations in Australia. December installation rates represent 29 per cent of the total installed capacity Australia-wide this month.
  • Upper Coomera (postcode area 4209) was the top performing suburb in Queensland in December with 20 new installations, followed closely by Buderim (postcode area 4556) with 19 installations.
  • Willawong (postcode area 4110) had the largest PV system installed in Queensland in December at 35kW.



 

  • South Australia installed 545 small-scale systems in December, representing 10 per cent of the total installed capacity Australia-wide this month.
  • 1 small-scale wind system was installed in South Australia  in December 2015. 
  • Morphett Vale (postcode area 5162) was the top performing suburb in South Australia again in December, with 11 new installations. This was followed closely by Mount Gambier (postcode area 5290) with 10 new installations.
  • Somerton Park (postcode area 5044) had the largest PV system installed in South Australia in December at 50kW.

  • 121 small-scale systems were installed in Tasmania in December, which is a 27 per cent increase from the 95 installations in November. 
  • George Town (postcode area 7253) was the top performing suburb in Tasmania in December with 6 new installations, followed closely by Kingston (postcode area 7050) and Legana (postcode area 7277) with 5 new installations each.
  • Warrane (postcode area 7018) had the largest PV system installed in Tasmania in December at 25kW.


 
  • 930 small-scale systems were installed in Victoria in December which represents 16 per cent of the total installed capacity Australia-wide this month. This is a 20 per cent increase from the 774 installations in November. 
  • Croydon (postcode area 3136) is the top performing suburb in Victoria in December with 28 new installations. 
  • Bright (postcode area 3741) had the largest PV system installed in Victoria in December at 49.9kW.
  • Solar water heaters represent 26 per cent of Victoria’s small-scale installations in December.

  • Western Australia had the third highest level of small-scale installations across Australia in December, representing 19 per cent of the total installed capacity Australia-wide this month. 
  • Western Australia had 1070 small-scale systems installed in December which is a 10 per cent decrease from November. 
  • Baldivis (postcode area 6171) is again the top performing suburb in Western Australia with 27 new installations in December.
  • Kewdale (postcode area 6105) had the largest PV system installed in Australia in December at 99.84kW.
