Small-scale systems installed across Australia

This map shows the total number of small-scale renewable energy systems installed under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme in each state and territory, and the total kilowatt rated output for July 2017 and the national cumulative totals since 2001.

*Given the 12-month period for creating small-scale technology certificates, the number of certificates for monthly installations will continue to rise. The data which informs this month’s update is accurate as at 1 July 2017. For up to date figures, please refer to the postcode data for small-scale installations.

National trends and analysis

  • There were 6139 small-scale systems installed nationally in July, with a total generation capacity of 31,479kW
  • Installation rates for July are currently tracking lower than June, with 6139 installed compared to 6859 last month
  • Queensland continues to have the highest level of small-scale installations across Australia with 2037 systems installed so far in July
  • Queensland had the highest number of commercial sized solar PV systems (10-100kW) installed in July, with 112 systems installed
  • There were 343 commercial sized solar PV systems (10 – 100kW) installed Australia-wide in July
  • There were 97 PV systems that had a concurrent battery storage installation in July

Each table below shows the breakdown of system types installed in each state and territory for July 2017, and the running total since the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme commenced in 2001.

  • The Australian Capital Territory installed 33 small-scale systems in July, which is the same as June’s installation figures
  • Kambah (postcode area 2902) is the top performing suburb in the Australian Capital Territory in July with three new installations

  • South Australia has installed 472 small-scale systems in July which is a decrease from last month, representing 8 per cent of the total number of installations Australia-wide this month
  • Hallett Cove (postcode area 5158), Hayborough (postcode area 5211) and Woodcroft (postcode area 5162) were the top performing suburbs in South Australia in July with 8 new installations each
  • South Australia had 36 commercial sized solar PV systems (10-100kW) installed in July
  • Tasmania has installed 99 small-scale systems in July which is a decrease from last month, representing 2 per cent of the total number of installations Australia-wide this month
  • Solar water heaters represent 21 per cent of the small-scale installations in Tasmania in July
  • Victoria has installed 690 small-scale systems in July which is a decrease from last month, representing 11 per cent of the total number of installations Australia-wide this month

  • Baldivis (postcode area 6171) was the top performing suburb in Western Australia in July with 48 new installations
