Feed use data collection for Piggeries – 1.1

29 November 2016

The purpose of this guidance is to clarify the feed used parameter and measurement procedure required for calculating the volatile solids in the effluent pond and baseline emissions from a piggery facility. The clarification is to account for feed that is grown and harvested on the piggery property rather than, or in addition to, feed purchased.

To cover the data collection requirements in this respect, for all scenarios:

  • the feed used parameter in section 4.17 of the methodology determination is taken to mean:
    1. For each type of feed or feed mix used, the weight purchased and delivered and/or the weight harvested and used in the piggery.
  • the measurement procedure in section 4.17 of the methodology determination is taken to mean:
    1. From delivery and/or harvest and storage records.

The approaches on 'indirect measurement at point of consumption' outlined in subsections 2C and 2D of section 2.15 of the National Greenhouse Energy and Reporting Measurement Determination 2008 may help proponents determine the weight of materials for which they cannot rely on invoices, such as feed harvested.
