2016–17 Safeguard facilities information is now available

14 March 2018

The Clean Energy Regulator today released the 2016–17 safeguard facility reported emissions data.

In 2016–17, 203 safeguard facilities had a total of 131.3 million tonnes carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2-e) covered emissions.

Responsible emitters used a range of options to meet their obligations, including applying for a calculated baseline, baseline variation (for improved emissions intensity), multi-year monitoring period, and surrendering Australian carbon credit units (ACCUs) to offset their emissions.

In addition to having a reported or calculated baseline in force:

  • 2 facilities had their baseline temporarily varied due to improved emissions intensity
  • 6 facilities entered a multi-year monitoring period to average emissions below their baseline, and
  • 16 facilities surrendered a combined total of 448 097 ACCUs.

Prior to the compliance deadline of 1 March 2018, 100 per cent of all safeguard facilities successfully managed their emissions to be below their baseline.

See more information about the 2016–17 safeguard facility reported emissions data.
